First Streaming TV to be Available in New Fords

As you pull up behind an SUV in traffic, it's hard to suppress your curiosity: What movie are they watching back there?

But when you pull up behind the new 2018 Ford Expedition. take a closer look! The back-seat passengers may be watching a TV show or sporting event once the Expedition becomes the first vehicle in the automotive industry and the first in the Ford lineup to feature live streaming.

2018 Ford Expedition Teems With Tech

To watch TV on the go, enthusiasts will need a home Slingbox system and Internet connection. Using a mobile app, they will be able to direct their home system to send a cable or satellite feed to the SlingPlayer installed in their 2018 Ford Expedition.

Backseat passengers will be able to view live TV on two, 8-inch screens embedded in the back of the front seat headrests. The screens can display the same or different content, and they can be controlled in one of three ways: buttons below the screens; a remote control; or a mobile app. The system will include two wireless headsets.

Live TV streaming represents a major technological advancement for the sporty 2018 Ford Expedition, but it's not the only one. Passengers also will be able to:

  • Send video to the display screens through the system’s SmartStream app on compatible Android or iOS devices.
  • Use the DVD player, HDMI port, USB or SD card reader to view additional content.
  • Enjoy a Wi-Fi hotspot option with support for up to 10 devices at once. And passengers won't have to remain strapped into the 2018 Ford Expedition to enjoy this feature; the system will have a range of up to 50 feet, making it ideal for camping trips and tailgating parties.
