How do you improve the truck that has been the No. 1 seller for 40 years and the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the last 35 years?

By making it tougher, more capable and smarter.

This is what Ford Motor Co. has in store for buyers of the 2018 F-150, set to arrive in showrooms across America – including Ford Country in Las Vegas – later this fall.

If you're lucky, you may not have to wait quite this long. You can be the first to drive the 2018 F-150 into your driveway by entering Ford's “Drive the Future of Tough Sweepstakes.” Win a 2018 F-150, worth up to $55,000 and see how Ford continues to power on with its iconic vehicle.

The 2018 F-150 is tougher looking

You'll notice a tougher look to the F-150, from the muscular grille and new headlamps to the newly embossed tailgate. The result? The 2018 F-150 looks wider also features six new wheel designs, ranging in diameter from 17 inches to 22 inches.

Ford has fortified the 2018 model with a high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body. This move achieves twin purposes: it reduces the weight of the sturdy truck and enables it to tow even heavier loads.

The 2018 F-150 is more capable

The new F-150 features the most advanced engine lineup ever, including:

  • A new, standard 3.3-liter V6 engine, with direct-injection for better efficiency. This engine is expected to offer the same 282 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque as the previous model’s standard 3.5-liter V6.
  • A second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, featuring advanced dual port and direct injection technology.
  • An enhanced 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
  • An improved 5.0-liter V8, designed to deliver added power and torque. For the first time, Ford has paired the engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
  • A new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine – the first diesel engine ever offered on the F-150. It, too, is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2018 F-150 is smarter

Longtime F-150 owners know better than to judge America's favorite truck by its rugged good looks alone. Its lane-keeping system, 360-degree camera technology and blind spot information system are scooting over to the passenger seat to make room for:

  • A pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection to help drivers avoid accidents with vehicles and pedestrians.
  • An adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality that allows drivers to set a cruising speed and use radar and camera technology to monitor traffic to maintain a specified distance between vehicles.
  • An embedded 4G LTE modem for a Wi-Fi hot spot, allowing drivers to connect as many as 10 mobile devices at once.
